Fixed prosthesis

The fixed prostheses, are completely tooth-supported prostheses, that take support only on the teeth.

the procedure is the next:

  • The dentist carves the teeth that will serve as support, called abutment teeth and located at the ends of each edentulous area (without teeth), in which the carefully adjusted fixed prostheses will be cemented.
  • To do this in the clinic, take impressions and bite records that will later be sent to the laboratory.
  • The prosthetist, at the laboratory, empty, the positive, plaster impressions, and builds on the resulting models the structures of the fixed prosthesis with wax.
  • These waxes will be included in special coatings resistant to high temperatures., and metal is cast with different alloys.
  • The last step could be to mount the ceramic on the metal structures, depending on the type of fixed prosthesis to be performed, as there is also the possibility of making the crowns and bridges in pure porcelain (no metal) or on a base of a white material called alumina or zirconium.

The dental technician will need to use an articulator that simulates the patient's temporomandibular joint., antagonistic models that reproduce the patient's dental arch, etc., to achieve a correct and functional occlusion.

Various mouth tests will be performed, and after achieving the three essential objectives of a prosthesis, the dentist will cement the result in the mouth, without it being able to be removed by the patient.
